Sticks and Stones

I missed Monday's usual post because I had a hell of a weekend and life just got in the way of things. And just when I thought my reign of bad luck was at an end, I met an asshole at the gym while I was working yesterday. Really, I kid you not.

Let me tell you what happened.
(p.s. can you tell I'm not too happy about it?)

My co-worker and I were going to split a pack of Oreos, it was an 8-pack, so obviously we were going to go halfsies. I didn't want all the Oreos, only two, so I tried to give away two of my cookies. The first person I asked was the first person to come to the front desk where my co-worker and I were standing. Here's how it went down.

Me: "Would you like an Oreo?"

Asshole: "No, I gotta lose twenty pounds!"

Me (COMPLETELY joking): "Well, so do I!"

Asshole: "Nah, not twenty. Maybe ten."

WHAT?! I'm sorry, but what the ACTUAL f***?!?!

My jaw dropped as this ass tried to play off his completely rude comment as a joke. He claimed that I could totally hide my extra pounds by wearing heels and the right clothes. "No one would even notice that you need to lose weight!"

Me: still jaw dropped, staring at my co-worker like, "Is this guy for real?"Guess who threw her Oreos out. Guess who hit the treadmill an hour later.

Remember the post I wrote on the problem with skinny? I seriously had to go back and reference it after hearing what this man said to me. How could he? I'm healthy. I can run circles around some of my skinniest friends! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO POINT OUT THAT SKINNY DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN HEALTHY?! HOW. MANY. TIMES.

"Your worth is not measured by how much you weigh." ~Me

I know I'm not the first to say it. But I wrote that. I wrote that. Right here. So what if some jerk told me I needed to lose ten pounds right? Right?

Words hurt. They hurt more than anything. Depending on what's said, it can literally feel like a dagger in your heart or a punch to the stomach. Words can't be taken back once they're said, they can be a total lie and come off as the complete truth, they can consume your mind and make you think so incredibly poorly of yourself. They can just hurt

We were taught in school, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Part of it's true. Cruel words will always hurt though. Always. No matter what you do to convince yourself that they aren't the truth. Personally, I say screw that man. He's an idiot and I love who I am; I love my Kim Kardashian ass and I love my curves. So seriously, screw you if you think I need to lose ten pounds. But to all of you, please think before you speak. You never know who you're hurting. Broken bones can heal, but sometimes hearts cannot.

I love this post, especially the first quote! I have to remember that little things, are just little things and not worth getting upset for.

So true. Words hurt more than something physical. They last and will always be there :/
