When It Rains, You Lose Your Starbucks

Today I woke up to birds chirping and my pup snuggled up against me. My window was slightly open and I had spent all night sleeping to the calm sound of the rain. I love the rain--when I'm inside and I can observe the kind of peace that comes along with it. Put me outside in it, and I absolutely hate it.

For example, today I woke up at 8 for a 9:30am work meeting. Ate some breakfast, got ready, went to my meeting. When I went into work for my meeting, it was relatively nice out. Come outside after my meeting, it's drizzling. Came back home to make a quick lunch and drag myself to class.

While I was making my salad, I kept contemplating whether or not I wanted to take my last freebie for this class I have today. Yesterday was super busy, today's schedule was pretty busy, and I only have two weeks left of school. So I decided to suck it up and be productive.

Worst decision I made today.

I got my stuff together, grabbed my umbrella and a very poorly made raincoat (regretfully a decent raincoat is not an item that I own... dumb I know), and set out to Starbucks. When I left Starbucks with my tall skinny latte in hand, I started to think, "Good choice Em, great job. Proud of you for actually going to class." And then I got to school. The drizzling rain had turned to straight out rain and conveniently enough, my campus is on top of a hill-- prone to extreme wind which makes already bad weather seem downright terrible. Suck it up Em. You're going to thank yourself later on. Really, you are... I promise.

Not. So I opened my umbrella, grabbed my bag and Starbucks, and started walking to class. I didn't even make it halfway to class before my umbrella was completely inside out thanks to the unbelievable wind. But I couldn't set my Starbucks down because it too would blow away. I put my latte between my knees, tried to tame my umbrella, and before I knew it my latte was on the ground and my umbrella had essentially lost the battle against the wind.

I gave up on today right there.

It wasn't even 11am and I was 110% done with today. So now, I'm at home, writing blog posts and drinking a homemade cup of coffee (ugh), listening to the patter of the rain against my windows. Some things are better left observed than experienced I suppose, rain being among them. I don't know how fun dancing in the rain is, but I have a pretty good feeling I'd strongly dislike it. And in other news, I'm starting to think some place sunny and warm is where I'm destined to be post-college. The struggle is real my friends, but hey, at least I made a valiant effort to drag my butt to school.

Long story short, rainy days are for staying indoors.

p.s. You can bet I'll be investing in a rain coat sooner rather than later.

Sundays In Bed

Oh, just how nice and inviting does that bed look like right now? It's finally Sunday... the day I've felt I've been waiting for all week, the day I love to spend lounging around my house in my pj's, catching up on shows, reading blogs, and doing whatever my little heart desires. Or at least that's what I do until work at four (Erg.)

BUT not every Sunday can be perfect and relaxing. Some Sundays are meant to be spent studying your heart out, in hopes of passing the test that you are quickly coming to realize is actually going to be a lot more difficult than you think. A huge thank you to my prof and his epically boring 8am class! #not.

As you can tell I'm in an extremely chipper mood. For the lucky ones out there though, I've rounded up this Sunday's readings so don't fret! Enjoy a day of relaxing for me, particularly if you're anywhere where the temperature is above 30 degrees.

"Without books, history is silent, literature dumb, science crippled, thought and speculation at a standstill."

1. I'm kind of realizing it's going to be hard to start reading regularly until summer rolls around. That being said, this book is going on my reading list. As is this one.

2. For all my girls who never had the issue of being in the "itty bitty titty committee". (Middle school scarred me for life.)

3. We got two more feet of snow last week, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't take a toll on my mood. But there's The College Prepster and her positive vibes for that.

5. The Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne? Touring together?! It's like my childhood all wrapped into one amazing concert. (For your viewing pleasure... you're welcome in advance.)

6. I love sleeping in when I can, but there are perks to being an early bird.

7. MTV was never that accurate. And now all they do is air unending seasons of "Teen Mom," so congratulations society. We've really hit rock bottom. Remember the days when MTV used to make us think spring break was everything? And when TRL was all that was good in the world?

8. If you're a yoga fanatic, or even just looking to try yoga... here ya go!

9. Lately I've been getting so hungry at night when I'm laying in bed. Avoid the cookie binge and try this healthy midnight snack!

10. If you missed Monday's post... how do you define "perfect"?

Enjoy your Sunday everybody!

Sundays In Bed

Sundays are my absolute favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love Saturdays too, but they're usually more busy and stressful. Sundays on the other hand mean sleeping in, brunches, and a day of relaxing in bed (at least if you're me!) And what makes this Sunday even more spectacular? The fact that I'm on spring break and have no school tomorrow!! So what if I'm not in Mexico? I get to sleep in (almost) every day and lounge around my house, with not a care in the world but blogging.

Okay, so maybe that's a little too ideal. But, if I had it my way, that's how it would be! It's essentially why I was in heaven for all most of winter break. I will be working away some of my days this break, between schoolwork and my job(s). I don't mind though, while I enjoy being lazy, the busy bee in me just won't quit. There's always something to do! But Sunday mornings? They're reserved for reading.

A Well-Read Woman is a Dangerous Creature

1. Can't ever start the week without reading my horoscope. Scary accurate.

2. Going somewhere for spring break? Meet the TSA's guidelines and pack your products right. There's nothing worse than watching your favorite shampoo get tossed in the trash can by some dude with an attitude problem.

3. Don't forget these packing tips  either (from none other than the main prepster herself, The College Prepster)! Make sure you have all your must-haves!

4. Now that you're packed, remind yourself of just how ready you are to get to the beach.

5. My first article for Her Campus!

6. If you love J. Law and have a lot of time on your hands, might as well read up on what it really means to be "a cool girl."

7. Guy problems? Chances are, it's probably not your fault. In their 20s, men are even more of a completely different breed of human.

8. I've been loving denim on denim lately, and I love these tips from LC even more!

9. If you're not going anywhere for spring break, or this never-ending winter is bumming you out/it seems like literally everything is going wrong, remember this. We all have our weeks right?

10. I'm not opposed to ending the weekend with a glass of wine (or two). Working the late shift tonight? Find out just what kind of drink you'll need once you're finally plopped down on your couch.

Sunday, the day for the language of leisure

I hope your day is spent relaxing and refueling. With the busy weeks ahead (summer come faster!), we could all use a little extra down time.
